Situated in busy downtown Hohhot, the Five-Pagoda Monastery was erected
in 1732. Towering 16 meters, the pagodas were laid with glazed bricks,
with reliefs of 1,560 Buddhist statues, hence its name the Thousand-Buddha
Pagoda. Five small pagodas stand on top of the temple. A horizontal
stone board was hung over the gate of the monastery with inscriptions
in Mongolian, Tibetan, and Han. |
