Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Tiantai County, the scenic area is
the birthplace of the Tiantai Sect of Buddhism. The rolling Tiantai Mountain
features towering peaks, rocks of various shapes, deep caves, swift mountain
streams, waterfalls, and surging clouds. Of the many temples in the mountain,
the better-known are the Guoqing, Gaoming, Zhenjue, and Fangguang temples.
At present, people of the Tiantai Mountain offer different tourist routes:
Tours of pilgrimage for Buddhist believers, of the native place of Ji
Gong known as the living Buddha, and of recuperation through qigong exercises.
