Cloud Dispelling Hall

The Cloud Dispelling Hall is the main hall of the building complex on the front side of the Longevity Hill. In the center of the hall is a nine-dragon throne, where the Empress Dowager Cixi sat when receiving tribute on her birthday. Behind the throne stands a screen, and flanking the throne are incense burners, palatial fans and various objects of art made of gold, silver, enamel or cloisonne.

The walls are hung with paintings, calligraphic work and plaques. The hall is also a veritable trove of treasures, as befitting the pomp and pageantry of imperial life. Looking down from the Tower of the Fragrant Buddha, one sees the Hall of Virtuous Light, the Cloud Dispelling Hall, the Second Palace Gate, the Cloud Dispelling Gate, and the Splendid Cloud and Jade Universe Archway. arrayed symmetrically along the same axial line, and looking beautiful in a solemn way.
