Chaozhou

Temple to Han YuLocated in eastern Guangdong Province, Chaozhou has been known as hometown to overseas Chinese. It was built in the Song Dynast (960-1279). The ancient gate and some of the city walls are well preserved. Many house and temples at the southern gate were built in the Ming and Qing (1368-1911) dynasties.

In downtown Chaozhou, there are historical sites such as Kaiyuan Temple, cliff carvings on Mt. Gourd, the Phoenix Pagoda, and the Temple to Han Yu. The traditional music, opera, and arts and crafts of Chaozhou have influenced those in Taiwan and the Southeast Asian countries.

Temple to Han Yu
Lying at the western foot of Mt. Bijia, the temple was built in honor of Han Yu (763-824), the great thinker and writer of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The imposing temple was built on the hillside and consists of three structures.
