Chengde / Local Products and Handicrafts

Introduction


Chengde is a famous historical, cultural and tourist city in China. The Mountain Resort was an imperial palace. Chengde boasts a lot of local and special products such as Xinglong hawthorn, apricot kernel, Bashang warabi vegetable and Chengde wood carved articles.



Local Products and Handicrafts

Warabi Vegetable

Called the king of mountainous vegetables, it is a wild vegetable. It is tender and crunchy with small leaves and light flower. It leads other vegetables in value and enjoys a high reputation at domestic and foreien markets.

Apricot Kernel


It is a special product of Chengde. Nourished and tasty, it can be fried to be a dish eaten while drinking wine. Also it can be used to make a drink good for decreasing blood fat and stimulating appetite.

Hanging Brocades

The hanging brocades produced by Chengde Silk Factory are magnificent and beautiful. For instance the hanging brocades "Mountain Resort" is woven with silk thread in more than 20 kinds of colors. It depicts 36 scenic spots in the resort including House of Mists and Rains, Lake-Center and Jinshan Pavilions with inscriptions by Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong.

Wood Carvings

Local special precious timber has been used as raw material for wood carvings, which are practical and rare handicrafts with special features of mountainous city. Mountain walnut is a local product and its hard shell can be made into beautiful carvings.
