Jiuquan

The city was known as Suzhou in ancient times. The present name means Wine Spring, Obtained from a spring that was said to smell like wine in the Western Han Dynasty.

The town was a strategic spot on the Old Silk Road. Tourist sites include Quanhu Park, bell and Drum Towers and the mural-lined tombs at Dingjiazha.
