Desert highway

The 446 km highway cuts across the Taklimakan Desert from Luntai in the north to Minfeng in the south. The roadbed is made of plastic nets, cobblestone, sand and asphalt in four layers.

To prevent shifting sand from burying the road surface, a double barricade of a 1.2 m high plastic sheet wall on the outside and a reed net with cross-shaped design within has been erected along the road.
