Beijing's municipal government has worked out a new regulation to increase security in the Tiananmen Square area.
According to the regulation, which went into effect on Tuesday, an emergency plan will be instituted in the case of unexpected incidents. Activities to be held in Tiananmen Square need to get the green light from the Tiananmen management committee. During rush hours, the square's eastern and western passageways are required to remain unblocked to ensure easy evacuation. Officials point out the city aims to take preventive measures to avoid potential stampede tragedies similar to the disaster in Miyun county during the Lantern Festival this year. |
