Three Gorges Dam Shows Less Impact on the
Gorges Than Expected (July 4, 2003)

Many people are wondering how the raised water level changed the Yangtze Three Gorges. China Travel News received 2 picture this week from Chongqing China International Travel Service (CQCITS). Both pictures were taken at the same spot: Qutang Gorge, the first gorge downstream from Chongqing.

The first picture was taken in May this year, before the big dam started to store water. The 2nd picture was taken after June 15, after the Three Gorges Dam has finished accumulating water and the water level reached 135 targeted height. From our view, we share the feel with Mr. Henry Yang, the photographer and a travel professional: The Three Gorges have not changed much. Yangtze Three Gorges retained its charming to the visitors home and abroad.
