The tourism area is in the Jingyuan County in the mountainous area of southern Ning Xia. The area is surrounded by verdant mountains and blue water. Its exuberant vegetation and waterfalls make the land bearing appearance of grandeur of North China and at the same time the beauty of South China, known as a "green isle" on the loess plateau. In 1995, it was appraised as a provincial level scenic spot.
Its interesting places include the garden of lotus, the pond of old dragon, small southern hill, the river of two dragons, the gate pass of ghost, the gorge of cool palace, and the Sha'nan Gorge. And it also involves the Qiuqianjia (the swing) and Yanling Temple caves and Baozishan Park, and a mosque at the city gate area.
Apart from the above scenic spots, there is also the "Swing," two towering peaks, 10 km northeast of the county seat. The legend has it that it is the place where Mu Guiying had once played the swing.
In the Huoshizhai Township north of Xiji County, there are red, purple-red colored cliffs, peaks, ridges and grotesque rocks protruding out on the loess plateau. The geomorphic scenery is very wonderful, called by geologists as the geomorphic structure. Because of the red quartzite sandstone is exposed, the local people call the place Huoshizhai, or a blockaded village of flint. It is a tourism area under development.
Jiangtaibao is located 30 km southeast of Xiji County seat, east bank of Hulu River. It was a military position of strategic importance in ancient time. According to historical document, it was first built during the period of the King of Zhaoxiang of Qin, a product of war. As an important military position, it had been renovated through the ages. On the southern front gate of the remained fortress, three big characters of "Jiang Tai Bao" are inlaid, which was dedicated by Bo Yibo.
The Memorial Tablet for the Joining Forces of Red Army was built in October 1996 to mark the joining forces of the three major forces of the Red Army in Jiang Tai Bao on the 22nd of October of 1936. It is 19.36 meters high, symbolizing the year 1936. Its three platforms link the base from three directions, meaning the three major forces to meet there. Each platform has 60 steps, marking the 60th anniversary of joining forces in 1996. On the front face of the tablet, a dedication of "The Memorial Tablet for the Joining Forces of the Red Army of Chinese Workers and Peasants at Jiang Tai Bao" by Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of CPC, was inscribed. The construction not only recorded the last joining forces of the army, but also presents the brilliant history once again and marked the end of the Long March.
