![]() The Great Hall of the People. It's one of the world's architectural marvels and a building so immense. Other building could fit inside its main chamber, where the thousands of representatives making up China's governing body, the People's Congress, meet for most of the year. When the Congress is not in session, the building that dominates the west side of Tian'anmen Square, the "heart of the Chinese Nation", become a venue for meetings, conventions and banquets. The catch is that, like the building itself, every even must be reasonably monumental in scope, although using only some of the facilities means smaller-relatively speaking-events can be accommodated. The Main Auditorium, where government leaders make their speeches and the representatives do much of their business, seats 3,600 in the lower auditorium, 3,500 in the balcony, 2,500 in the gallery and 4.00 on the dias. That's 10,000 in all! Smaller gatherings can hold forth in the Liaoning, Guangdong, Hunan, Shanghai and Beijing reception rooms, with larger groups having the use of one or more of the 30 conference halls and the smallest assemblies accommodated in one or more of the over 300 office rooms. The 7,000 Square meter State Banquet Hall seats, 5,000. The Great Hall of the People is centrally heated and air-conditioned, with its facilities equipped with modern audio-visual and other systems adaptable to a variety of meeting types and sizes. Some Facilities have simultaneous translation systems and all are equipped with modern emergency warning and suppression systems. |
